(BLUEWATER, ON) – A novice driver from Central Huron will be heading to court later this fall following a traffic stop conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week.
Just after 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020 a Huron County OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling southbound on Airport Line at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer used a RADAR device to confirm the speed of the vehicle and it was measured to be travelling in excess of double the 80 km/h speed limit.
After following the vehicle for several kilometers the investigating officer was able to get the subject vehicle stopped. Upon stopping the driver officers had reason to conduct a roadside screening test on the driver. The driver produced a sample and his Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) reading was found to be above zero.
Additionally, a search of the motor vehicle was conducted which resulted in police seizing a quantity of cannabis that was readily available to the driver. As a result, Cory DURRER, 20 years of age, from Central Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform a Stunt – Speeding by 50 km/h or more, Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero and Fail to Have Insurance Card. He will now have to attend Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich on December 15, 2020.
